Marylebone Summer Festival 2023

Marylebone Summer Festival is organised and funded by The Howard de Walden Estate as a local community event.

The festival showcases the area, whilst also raising money and awareness for our charity partner. This year the festival takes place over the weekend of the 10-11 June with film screenings on the Saturday and a street event on Sunday.

The event is in support of a good cause and this year, our nominated charity is Greenhouse Sports. They provide opportunities for young people who may be disengaged, vulnerable or facing disadvantage to develop the social, thinking, emotional and physical skills that help them thrive. Last year’s event raised an amazing £40,000 for the charity, allowing them to purchase new sports equipment and hire extra coaching staff.

Impact to residents

Although events like this prove to be great fun for the majority and help to raise much needed funds for the charity, they can inevitably cause inconvenience to residents.  The Howard de Walden team work closely with Westminster City Council to ensure that there is minimum disturbance.

Friday 9 June 2023: Restricted access to Paddington Street Garden’s (South)

We will be setting up event elements within Paddington Street Garden’s (South) from 8am. We have instructed the event team to keep noise levels to a minimum and have employed our longstanding security stewards to help and assist people. There will be no access to the gardens via Moxon Street during this period and certain areas of the park will be restricted for safety. Access will remain to a small area of the gardens via Paddington Street.

Saturday 10 June 2023 (12pm – 8pm)

On the Saturday, activity in the gardens will start at 12pm, when our food stalls and festival bar will open. There will be live music, followed by a pop-up cinema screening (with sound via headphones), starting at 1:30pm, a family screening of Disney’s Encanto (U) and an evening screening at 8pm of Elvis (12A). The evening will be a lot of fun and very much a community affair. Once the screening has ended the public will be vacated from the park quickly and quietly, with the end of the event falling around 11pm.  Security guards will remain in the park overnight.

Access to Paddington Street Garden’s (South) will remain open to the public during the event times. The bar and food offerings will be available for purchase.  Headphones and blankets can be purchased in advance or on the night, to watch the film from these locations. However, the main lawn, with deckchairs and blankets, will only be accessible to cinema ticket holders. As the film is a 12A rating our security team will kindly ask any families with children under this age to vacate after 8pm.

Tickets are on sale now and for Encanto can be purchased here, and Elvis here. This is a popular event so to avoid disappointment we recommend you book your tickets as soon as possible.

Sunday 11 June 2023 (main event timing 11am – 5:30pm)

The street event starts at 11am and finishes at 5:30pm, but within Paddington Street Garden’s (South) the activities continue until 8pm. The Sunday will see the return of many food, drink and gift stalls, funfair rides, wellness activities, children’s area and much more! Plus, the return of the community dog show in Marylebone Gardens, which is located at the top of the high street. The show will be hosted by local retailer Mr & Mrs Small, as well as a special guest appearance! Follow our Instagram page @MaryleboneVillage for announcements on how to enter your pet pooches!

Road Closures

A large number of the roads around and including Marylebone High Street will be closed off to traffic from 6am – 8pm on Sunday 11 June. We apologise in advance for any disruption these closures cause, we have tried to keep the time of the closures to a minimum. See map of road closures here.

Car access into the event area, will NOT be possible at any time between 6am - 8pm on Sunday 11 June. Please avoid deliveries by vehicle to your homes on the day if you are located within the event area.  If emergency access is required, our security steward team will ensure safe access is provided – but this will be strictly limited to emergencies.

Parking suspensions

For the event to happen safely we are required to suspend parking within the road closure area. If you have a resident permit, please ensure you park your car in a resident bay OUTSIDE of the road closure area by midnight on 10 June. Please check the detail on yellow signs placed at parking bays for suspension information as there are also some bays suspended for the event build.

Music and noise

There will be live music in Paddington Street Garden’s (South) between 11:30am and 8pm. Other noticeable music points include Devonshire Street (Lululemon yoga and wellness activation), New Cavendish Street (Alyssia Fleur Dance School), Marylebone High Street and Marylebone Lane (Disco Bus). We apologise in advance for any noise disturbance these may produce.

Impact to businesses

Deliveries or commercial waste collections

Please ensure you rearrange any deliveries or commercial waste collections during road closure times as there will be no vehicle access except for emergencies.

Involvement in the event

If you would like to have alfresco dining within the road closures or have an activation as part of the summer festival, please ensure you speak to us as soon as possible. We must make the council aware of all pop-up activity or alfresco as part of the event licence and include it in our event management plans. There will be a site visit on the day and any activity we are unaware of may have to cease.
